Dental Checkups & Cleanings

Dr. Kiesel recommends that patients keep regular six-month dental checkups and teeth cleanings with our office. This allows us to inspect all areas of your mouth using high-resolution imaging, easily identifying early signs of decay, gum disease, and any improper oral function. In addition to the standard checkup, we’ll also perform an oral cancer screening to look for any abnormalities before cleaning your teeth to remove hardened plaque and tartar.

Gum Disease Treatment

Pulling down lips to show inflamed gums

If your gums are consistently red, swollen, or bleeding, there is a good chance that you may be suffering from gingivitis – the earliest stage of gum disease. If caught, symptoms can be reversed; however, if they’re dismissed, bacteria will spread, resulting in an infection that can lead to bone and tooth loss as well as an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other serious health issues. With scaling and root planing, we can target and eliminate areas of plaque and tartar build-up as well as smooth out tooth roots to reduce the chances of future reinfection.

Fluoride Treatment

Although you may be getting fluoride through the toothpaste you use and the water you drink, some patients still do not receive the appropriate amount to safeguard their teeth. This is why we use fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel and protect against tooth decay. We also provide silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in situations where a cavity has already formed, as it can kill the bacteria, stop the spread, and prevent future damage.

Dental Sealants

The chewing surfaces of back teeth tend to develop cavities more often than those found in the front. Exposed to food debris and other harmful particles, if these molars are not properly cleaned, plaque and tartar can form, damaging the enamel. With dental sealants, this clear, protective coating can be applied to the chewing surfaces to prevent bacteria from penetrating for up to 10 years.

Nightguards for Bruxism

If you’re worried about worn tooth enamel or jaw pain because you unconsciously grind your teeth at night, it may be time to consider a customized nightguard to treat your bruxism. Designed to fit your mouth comfortably, this protective device creates a barrier so that the upper row of teeth does not come into contact with the lower row. Not only does this reduce the potential for damaged enamel but also alleviates pressure placed on your jaw joints throughout the night.
