Who is a Good Candidate for Dentures?
Dr. Kiesel typically recommends dentures for patients who are missing several or even all of their teeth, as a single prosthetic can be used to fully restore an entire arch in relatively little time. For patients who only need one or two teeth replaced, a more conservative solution such as a bridge or single-tooth implant is advisable.
Types of Dentures
Because each patient experiences tooth loss differently, our practice is happy to offer a selection of dentures so we can find the solution that best suits someone's situation and goals.
Traditional Dentures
A traditional denture is a removable prosthetic that stays in place either through natural suction against the gums or small clasps that loop around the remaining teeth. Regardless, they feature a gum-colored acrylic base topped with finely designed porcelain teeth to ensure a patient feels confident whether they are smiling, speaking, or taking a bite.
Implant Dentures
- Removable: A removable implant denture snaps onto a set of titanium posts set into the jaw that are topped with small ball joints that link with the base of the prosthetic. Even though the teeth can be taken out, the implants make this type much more stable than a traditional denture.
- Fixed: With this, the denture is anchored to the jaw in a way so that only Dr. Kiesel will be able to remove it. This prosthetic is usually placed during the All-on-4 procedure, in which a small number of implants are positioned strategically within the jaw so that a patient can receive both the new roots and teeth in a single appointment. Afterward, a patient can treat the denture just like their natural teeth without having to take it out.
